An addition to my "It had to happen" files: After several months of Covid lockdown, my Volvo felt "unloved," I had been avoiding regular checkups at Model Garage. I suppose the loneliness and lack of companionship with other Volvos got to my car. All sorts of warning lights went off, ABS, brake light, service light, the window would refuse to stay up and a general grumbling from deep within the hood. So I made the trek to Model well PPE'd. The hopes I had for an "affordable" workorder disappeared when Rob gleefully started by assuring me the wheel brake sensors were OK but the ABS unit had failed. That is a big hit to the bank account as any Volvo owner knows. He then said I had to perform the regular service for the service light to go off. By then the potential damage to the bank account was creeping up. Was there a choice? of course, he said. Except he could not predict when the ABS would give up the ghost completely and the brakes would lock up. The idea of showing up on the six o'clock news as the idiot who got stuck on some freeway or worse on a bridge. The mind boggles. I reluctantly agreed to the work order. It was odd he called me bright and early on the day of the work, surely that was too fast? Nope. He had further "good news." The battery was also going to the great recycler in the sky, timing unpredictable. I could visualize being double parked to get my takeout from my favorite Hunan restaurant, BTW why are all the parking spots in front of my favorite restaurants always full? Another big hit. Before he could find other stuff that needed fixing right away, I eventually agreed to the work. I hope I get some peace and quiet so my bank account recovers from this assault. However I was glad to have contributed my wee bit to the Model Garage Christmas fund...
